Let Freedom Ring…

Metaphysical Exploration– Visual Perspective

Some visualizations of images I’ve had dancing in my head for some time. The bases for these concepts come from many traditions- spiritual and scientific- that have recurred in my lifelong search for the Divine.

I’m convinced that the next stage of human evolution involves the psychic realm– mental, spiritual, emotional–

we will see each other’s truth

and we will either be afraid

fight or flee

or we will see ourselves reflected

and remember why we’re here

to love

and be loved

Peace

Love

Light

& Laughter.

Let Freedom Ring…

It’s Fundamental…

Love it or hate it, there’s very little you can do in the modern world without the ability to read.

Not to mention the sheer joy of losing yourself in the story spun by someone’s vivid imagination.

If communication is food for the Soul, reading for pleasure is its Holy Communion.

We become intimately acquainted with the world through our ability to read…

words on a page…

the writing on the wall…

body language…

between the lines…

minds…

tea leaves & tarot cards…

The Reuters news agency reported a story about mobile classrooms in the slums of India.  Children who would not otherwise go to school (due to socio-economic curcumstances) are learning the fundamentals that we Americans take for granted: Readin’, Ritin’, and ‘Rithmatic.

An educated friend of mine told me that Horace Mann (as in “Go west, young man”) convinced congress to institute free public education in order to get all those hooligans (children) off the streets.  I tend to believe that an educated population is a good investment…you know, in the public interest. Makes for a more evolved society….

Whether you think children are entitled to an education or not, the fact remains that without the fundamental skills of reading, writing, and mathematics, we can’t survive in this world.

When did that happen?  How did it happen?  Evolution.  We evolved intellectually over the course of just a few hundred years, establishing the pursuit of intellectual interests as an integral part of civilization.  Literacy has become a survival skill.

The problem is that not all humans are given the opportunity to evolve in order to survive.  Some argue that Darwin addressed this already– survival of the fittest.  Social Darwinism is often used to justify the injustice of the Haves-vs-Have-Nots… them that’s got shall get…them that’s not shall lose.

Balderdash.

It is in everyone’s best interest if a strong community is built on a foundation of Equality.  A level playing field.  The same page.  Square One.  Competition for resources makes sense in times of lack, but information is a resource that never runs out.  Everyone deserves the means of acquiring information– literacy.

Enough politics.  I’m pleased that children are still able to learn for free…but it frustrates me that free public education is still treated as a commodity.

Humbug.
