I love books. I’ve loved them since I was a little girl, walking all by myself past the creepy abandoned house to the public library…where the librarian still stamped your books with the due date. I’ve always collected books… ones that I loved reading again and again, and ones that I wanted to read.
I perused my little library today, looking for something to inspire me. I spied this treasure and decided it was worth sharing.
Sister Wendy Beckett is a Carmelite nun and art historian who shared her passion for art on a BBC series: The Story of Painting. Her style is remarkable, revealing a deep appreciation for the technique, the expression, and the archetypal nature of art, and a charming affection for the unexpected. The Story of Painting follows Sister Wendy’s presentation style, illustrating the social, political, and religious trends represented in the art of the period. Part art history textbook, part coffee-table art book, this is one of those books I keep turning to for facts and for fantasy.
